A MEETING LIKE NO OTHER

Thirty-six years of letters, pictures, small keepsakes, phone calls, text messages and social media posts. That is how long Angie Merkle of Adrian and Tara McCarthy of Lowell, Indiana, have kept up as friends and pen pals without ever meeting each other in person.

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED WHILE WORKING REMOTE

In the midst of the pandemic, many companies have converted to a remote setting; meaning no more, or limited, in-office meetings, face-to-face team projects and the absence, or alteration, of those close-knit colleague relationships. This has caused many to feel unmotivated and overwhelmed while working from home. However, it is very possible to reignite that motivation! Motivation leads to a clearer headspace and better, more satisfying work that you can be proud of. Here are some ways you can stay motivated while working remotely.

THREE WAYS TO BE MINDFUL OF AND REDUCE YOUR FOOD WASTE

Let’s talk about food waste. NPR reported that “the average college student generates 142 pounds of food waste a year, according to Recycling Works, a program in Massachusetts. And college campuses as a group throw out a total of 22 million pounds of uneaten food each year, the Food Recovery Network has found.” As most of us are college students with probably about $12.72 in our bank account, we can’t afford to be wasting 142 pounds of food. Not only is it harmful to our wallets, it is harmful to the environment. So, how can we combat this problem and cut down on waste?

FAST FASHION - WHY IT'S A PROBLEM AND WHY WE SHOULD CARE

Most of us have probably heard of the term “fast fashion” by now. However, some of us probably don’t even really know what it is, or fully understand it. Oxford defines fast fashion as “Inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends.” Okay, companies are able to sell large amounts of product for very low costs to the buyer - so what? Isn’t that what consumers want, cheap but trendy clothing? Yes, but many consumers are oblivious to the harmful effects that come with fast fashion.

SELF GROWTH

Coming into one’s self: fully embracing the mind, body and spirit. It is one of the most awakening experiences one can go through. Self-growth comes in many forms and takes us through different chapters of life; we see it in almost every aspect at one point or another. Your development is not going to look identical to that of the person next to you — everyone’s journey is unique and complex.

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

THE UPSIDE OF A COLLABORATIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Have you ever had a boss who just loved to throw everything at you at once or got mad if you did the smallest thing incorrectly? Maybe they didn’t have any sort of understanding or empathy towards their employees? I’m sure many of us have experienced that in some form or another: the feeling that you are alone with all the pressure to get the work done solely on you, even when working with other colleagues. It can leave you feeling drained, exhausted and overwhelmed. This is why a collaborative environment is important. It prevents overwhelm and leads to more connectivity, which yields productivity
